The weather was lovely, well, sometimes! The afternoons playing outside were enjoyed by all. Lots of different bat and ball games, yoyos a favourite, skipping, swing ball game, playing football, building camps with the tents and role play, just some of the activities.
We started the term by the children completing an ideas doodle sheet and from this the projects planned can include their wishes. The dark nights arrive and weather is wet and cold. We planned arts and craft projects and the children get creative. Free painting came first and lots of pictures to take home. We decided to visit different countries the arts and craft projects, so to record these the children have made small passports to fill in and these will come home end of the school year.
Australia and painting still in mind, we had a go at dot art. We explored the animal life in Australia and discussed the native Aboriginal people’s life and their rock art. The Netherlands and the 12 provinces there, we made windmills with turning sails, clog treat shaped packets and chatted about the clog history, back to mediaeval times. We had a pair of wooden clogs for the children to try on, steady we go, ”a bit tricky” one child said! The landscapes and geology of the Netherlands, flat and lots of water. The children made models of the pretty building and lots more.
United states and Halloween, a huge holiday over in the USA with parades and pumpkin displays in New York. The children there use their favourite heroes and dress in themed costumes. The children all make scary hand puppets practicing their sewing skills along with pumpkin treat bags filled with popcorn. Lots of colouring and word searches.
For fireworks we had a group chat on the fire work code and safety. Remembering to keep our pets safe and to follow adult’s instruction so fun can be had by all. For Remembrance Sunday, large poppies were made and we had a lovely display of the children’s artwork.
Dinosaurs came next with models to make and clay work which was a children’s request to use clay. A visit to the Arctic and Antarctica. What were the dinosaurs doing there? And where do the penguins live, we will be talking about the native Inuit people that live in this cold climate.
Hooray we are on the home run to the Christmas holidays and the festivities begin. We will be making Christmas decorations, visiting other counties and having group chats on how Christmas is celebrated.
