AUTUMN 2023

We went on nature walks collecting leaves and bits and bobs to do a leaf wreath, textured leaf pictures and woodland animals fox, hedgehog and squirrels. The harvest festival was topic of chats with the children about what they were doing at their school.

The dark nights arrive and weather is wet and cold. We planned arts and craft projects and the children get creative.

The tall ships race that was held in Falmouth this year provided a theme on sailing ships. Using corks we made ships that floated and rocked. Group chats included info on the cork tree and its uses. Paper folding boats took a while to get right but we got there, colourings etc kept the children busy.

The Barn Owl Trust was our next project, naming our own owlet to live at Acorns, again using corks to make models of owls. Finding the differences in a woodland picture and colourings of owl habitats interested all. Fluffy owl made and large owl from paper resources, this was a favourite bird and children were keen to share their knowledge.

Halloween and we have planned black cat models for table decorations, spider pots with a sweet treat in and pumpkin pictures.

Bonfire night with colouring all about the fire work code, we have rocket models and broomstick snacks.

Using pegs for models comes next, watch out as catapults are on the list as well as peg planes and animals. Pen people and a play camping scene to make reminding us of summer days and holidays.

December 2023 and Christmas were enjoyed by the children. the Christmas crafts are always a favourite. The theme of decoration saw the group making cork reindeers, wooden Christmas trees with lots of ribbon, mini crackers filled with a sweet treat and holly hanging decorations. Large crackers were made as a table centre piece.
