The new term in September 2022. All the staff spend time with the children, listening and getting to know them. We build routines and set boundaries for all to follow and the children are involved in this process. It is important that all the children and members understand why this is important in the setting, providing a safe and secure place for the children to explore, play and relax after their day at school.
The weather was lovely and the afternoons playing outside were enjoyed by all. Lots of different bat and ball games, yoyos a favourite, skipping, swing ball game, playing football, building camps with the tents and role play.
As the dark nights arrived and the weather was cold, we planned arts and craft projects and the children get creative. Halloween and we made moving skeletons, lollipop witches, paper cats, pencil brooms, jumping ghosts and pumpkin decorations. The children enjoyed this theme and keen to take all they made home.
Bonfire night with colouring sheets all about the fire work code, the children shared their experiences with us about the displays they went to.
Sewing came next and we used lots of felt with a Scandinavian theme, houses, horses, birds and polar bears gave a Nordic feel to the afternoons.
Back in time to Stonehenge and we made models of stone age huts and pipe cleaner people. Colouring pictures featured the Saxon people and how they dressed and we explored their alphabet, writing our names in Celtic letters.
Shields were made using the favourite themes of animals of the Celtic people and bracelets called torcs made to wear. Puzzles and story books extended our knowledge on this time in history. We had group chats where we shared information on visits that the children had made to Stonehenge. This project grabbed the children's imagination and was carried on for an additional week at the children's request!
Christmas nearly here and we read the Christmas story together and made decorations for our homes.
