"Staff provide a remarkably rich, varied and imaginative range of activities and resources for children to explore and enjoy each day."
Ofsted 2018
We support children to choose and design activities which stimulate their curiosity, encourage their creativity, foster co-operation and most of all enable them to have fun, build friendships and independence. We aim to have a bit of something for everyone.
We have a number of rooms packed with different activities to choose from including using computers, playing board games and building stuff. There are plenty of friends to play with or space to find a quiet spot to read or do arts and crafts.
One thing we really love to do at Acorns is cooking. We are lucky to have a fully equipped kitchen on site which the children can use. We teach about hygiene, healthy eating and easy recipes. Cooking activities are supported by puzzle sheets, word searches and worksheets.
"I just wanted to say the cheese straws were amazing. X was so proud to bring them home and they were really delicious. She told us all about how she made them and wants to make more at home now!"
We have themed projects each term. These are often linked to seasonal celebrations such as Chinese New Year, Day of the Dead and Mother's Day; making decorations, gifts and displays. We also cover educational topics on the natural world, history and geography. We have topics to raise awareness of differences in cultures and abilities. We have regular and hotly contested model making competitions: recent themes chosen by the children are 'Harry Potter' and 'The Seaside'.
Our outdoor space is packed with games to play and sports kit. In good weather we are able to use Princecroft School Playing Field.
